What PassLab is
PassLab is a browser-based password generator. Passwords and passphrases are generated locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API and are never transmitted to a server. The site also provides educational content about password security.
Use of the service
You may use PassLab for any lawful purpose, including personal and business password creation. You agree not to: (a) interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure; (b) attempt to access non-public areas of the site; (c) use the site to commit or facilitate any unlawful act; or (d) scrape the site in a way that materially affects performance for other users.
No account, no data
PassLab has no user accounts. We collect no personal data through the generator itself. The website uses analytics and (with your consent) advertising tools — see our Privacy Policy for the full disclosure.
Provided "as is" — no warranty
PassLab is provided free of charge on an "as is" basis. We make no warranties or representations, express or implied, about the suitability, reliability, availability, accuracy or completeness of the service. Use of any generated password is at your own risk. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any loss arising out of or in connection with your use of PassLab is limited to £100. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Intellectual property
The PassLab name, logo and the site design are owned by Depthia. The source code of the generator (the cryptographic routines) is published as plain JavaScript and may be inspected via your browser’s developer tools. Passwords you generate are yours; we make no claim over them.
Third-party services
PassLab is hosted on Vercel and may use analytics or advertising services from Google, Microsoft and PostHog (only with your consent under PECR). Your use of those services through PassLab is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. Links to platform documentation (Instagram, Gmail, etc.) are provided for reference; we are not affiliated with the platforms we describe.
Acceptable use of generated passwords
PassLab generates passwords using your browser’s cryptographic randomness. We cannot prevent you from using a generated password for an unlawful purpose, and we accept no responsibility for how passwords are used after generation. You are responsible for storing your passwords safely; we recommend a reputable password manager such as Bitwarden, 1Password or Proton Pass.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be flagged with an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of PassLab after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
