Generate a
20-character
password

Anyone with high-value accounts. Your password manager's master password, your primary email, your banking logins, and admin access to servers or cloud infrastructure are all candidates for 20+ character passwords. The rule of thumb: the worse a breach would be, the longer your password should be.

Yes, mathematically — each extra character multiplies the search space by ~70-95x. But in practice, the difference matters most against theoretical future hardware (quantum computing, etc.). For today's threats, 16 is sufficient. 20 is a comfort buffer and a future-proofing measure.

Most modern systems support 20 characters easily. However, some older systems (certain banking portals, government sites, legacy enterprise apps) may cap passwords at 12-16 characters. You don't — and you shouldn't have to. A 20-character random password is designed to be stored in a password manager. If you need something memorable at this length, use our passphrase generator to create a 5-6 word phrase, which can achieve similar entropy with better memorability.
